Baby Loss Awareness Week 2024
Baby Loss Awareness Week (9 - 15 October) is an annual opportunity to come together as a community and give anyone touched by pregnancy or baby loss a safe space to share their experiences and know that they are not alone.
At SPACE, we recognise that every loss matters, regardless of gestational weeks.
Loss is loss - and whether that loss was experienced through failed IVF, an early or later miscarriage, or as a stillbirth or neonatal loss, it all matters.
We also recognise that childlessness caused by infertility is a form of loss that needs to be grieved as well. So there is a space for you here too.
We recognise that Baby Loss Awareness Week is such an important yet sensitive time for so many of our community, and we’ve included a short round up of a few different events that might be of interest, however you choose to remember your loss.
Global Wave of Light (SANDS)
You can join the annual Global Wave of Light to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week on 15th October at 7pm.
You can do this by simply light a candle at 7pm (UK time) and leaving it burning for one hour in memory of every baby who lit up our lives for such a short time.
To help spread awareness, you can also take a photo or video clip of your candle burning and post it to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #WaveOfLight - if you want to.
Remembrance Service at St George’s Hall (Liverpool Women’s Hospital)
Liverpool Women’s Hospital NHS Trust’s annual Baby Loss Service of Remembrance will take place on Wednesday 9th October 2024 at St George’s Hall in Liverpool city centre this year.
As in previous years there will be two services:
- Family Service - doors open at 4.30pm with refreshments and crafts. Service will begin at 5.30pm.
- Adult only Service - doors open at 7.15pm with refreshments and crafts. Service will begin at 8pm.
In addition to this year’s services, the trust will be streaming the service live on their You Tube channel for anyone who is unable to make the service in person. More details about this will be shared closer to the event.
As in previous years, the hospital’s Honeysuckle Bereavement team would also like to invite families to have their baby/babies names included in the service. Please email: honeysuckle@lwh.nhs.uk by Monday 9th September with details if you would like to be included in this gesture.
